Obituary of Ruby Joan Ottinger

Ruby Joan Ottinger, 75, of Benton Harbor, passed away at Bronson Methodist Hospital on Friday, December 13, 2019.

Ruby was born on February 18, 1944, to the late Raymond and Frances (Seward) Fisher in South Bend, Indiana.  On Christmas Day 1961 Ruby wed the love of her life, Lesley “Leo” E. Ottinger in South Bend.  Together they raised their five children. 

Ruby was a homemaker her whole life and she was a wonderful caretaker and mother.  She loved her pet monkeys and parrots that she had in the past and especially her pet poodles she had, Tiny and Betty.  She had a green thumb, was a wonderful gardener and enjoyed caring for plants.  She lived with her daughter and her daughter’s fiancé, Glenn Miller, and in her free time, she enjoyed crocheting.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Fisher and Frances Davis; husband, Lesley “Leo” Ottinger; one grandson; and several brothers and sisters.

Ruby is survived by her children, Lora Ottinger of Benton Harbor, Lesley “Bub” (Lori) Ottinger of Niles, Brenda (Scott) Moyer of Niles, Loretta Ottinger of Niles, Kenneth “Butch” Ottinger of Niles; nine grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; sister, Darlene (Emory) Gerschoffer of Niles; and many extended family members and close friends.

A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2019, at Brown Funeral Home in Niles from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. followed by a short graveside service at Bertrand Bible Church Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
