Obituary of William Cox

William "Bill" Cox, 70, of Granger, passed away at Indiana University Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis on Saturday, August 12, 2017. Bill was born on October 8, 1946, to the late Robert and Marjorie Cox in Niles, Michigan. After graduating from Brandywine High School in 1965 Bill went on to attend Ferris State University and Lake Michigan College. He worked for many years in sales, service, and management for Joe Hayden Ford in Niles. In 1968, Bill wed the love of his life, Phyllis Skinner, at a ceremony in Niles and just this week the two celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary. Together they had two children and four dogs. Bill enjoyed caring for the family's four dogs, Daffodil, Violet, Rosie, and Charlie. He also enjoyed fishing and metal detecting and answered to the nickname "Herbie" from his friends and "Doll Boy" when Phyllis called him. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Michelle "Shelly" Gray. Bill is survived by his wife, Phyllis; son, Christopher (Becky) Cox of South Bend; adopted son, Raymond Alger of Granger; grandchildren, Zachary, Nicholas, Christopher and Evan; sister, Debi (Michael) Ringler of Niles; brother-in-law, Jimmy (Vicky) Skinner of Niles; and many extended family members and close friends. A time of visitation will be held on Friday, August 18, 2017, at Brown Funeral Home in Niles from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.
