Obituary of Cora Lynn Pond

Cora L. Pond, 56, of Niles, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Center for Hospice in South Bend.

She was born on January 4, 1963 in Hinsdale, Illinois to the late Lambert Sr. and Almeda (Newell) Herlien.

Cora worked as a waitress for the last twenty-five years and always looked forward to daily interactions with her customers. She enjoyed camping, baking, cooking for others, gardens and time spent with family, especially her grandchildren. On November 1, 2014, Cora married Gearld “Jerry” L. Pond, Jr. at a ceremony in Machesney, Illinois.

She is preceded in death by her parents; a son, Stevie McCarthy; a brother, Daryl Herlien and a sister, Connie Mesich.

Cora is survived by her husband, Jerry Pond, Jr. of Niles, two sons, Charles “Chuck” Hutchings of Berrien Center and Andrew Severson of Berrien Springs; two daughters, Marie Zahn of Winnebago, Illinois and Sarah Severson of Rockford, Illinois; nine grandchildren; three brothers, Ben (Bonnie) Herlien of Arizona, Lambert Herlien, Jr. of Montana and Ronald Herlien of Rockford, Illinois as well as a sister, Carol (Mike) Walston as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at 12:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Niles with a time of visitation beginning one hour prior. An interment will be held on Monday, January 14, 2019 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Oronoko Township.
