Obituary of Susan LaVon Dayson
Susan L. Dayson, 70, of Dowagiac, passed away at her home on Sunday, November 18, 2018, with her family by her side.
Susan was born on November 15, 1948, to the late Mary E. (Dolph) Thornton in Bremen, Indiana. She graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1967. Susan married the love of her life Joseph E. Dayson Jr. on May 5, 1969 at a ceremony in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Together they raised three sons. Susan enjoyed her grandchildren; they were the joy of her life. She was the best grandma; she loved and cherished each of them. Susan was with her grandchildren as they made their entry into this life and was their constant comfort, gave them the greatest cuddles and loved to spoil them. She was their biggest supporter and was always there for them. Susan worked nineteen years for the Living Alternatives for the Developmentally Disabled Corporation, she loved her job. In her free time she enjoyed attending the Tribal Pow Wow’s, visiting the Casino, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph E. Dayson Jr. on January 12, 2009; her mother and her brother, Quentin E. Thornton.
Susan is survived by her sons, Joel Dayson of Dowagiac; Brian (Kateri) Dayson of East Jordan , MI and Keith (Sarah) Dayson of Dowagiac; grandchildren , Andrue Dayson, Colin Dayson, Dominic Dayson, Edric Dayson, Fallon Dayson Maanii Dayson and Marcus Wares; siblings, Rex Thornton of Oregon, Barbara Ward of Niles, Johanna Thornton of California, Bonnie (Steve) Dempsey of New Jersey and Christine (Thomas) Thornton-Albert of Louisiana and her beloved companion dog, Tootie.
A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at Mission Hills Memorial Garden. A traditional Native American Tribal Ceremony will begin at 12:00 led by Dale Anderson, with a Celebration of her life following, officiated by Pastor Boyd Saylor. Burial will follow at Mission Hills Memorial Garden where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
Memorial contribution may be made to the family, in care of her son Brian Dayson.
