Obituary of Evelyn Wava Jasper

Please share a memory of Evelyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Evelyn (Roberts) Jasper passed away on October 20, 2018.  Being the true Irish fan that she was, she literally shook down the thunder from the sky... and the rain... and the hail... and the wind... and the snow.

She was born to William and Abbie (Stephenson) Roberts on March 3, 1932, although she would tell you March 3, 1933 (3/3/33) because it sounded cooler.  She was the 2nd youngest of 11 kids, lovingly referred to as "those damn Roberts kids."  Bernard, Bernice, Jack, Paul, Gladys, Marie, Sally, Margaret, Harry, and Cecil preceded her in death, but not before a lifetime of sibling torture, that included knocking Harry's teeth out with a hammer (totally on accident, I'm sure) and trying to out-do each other with the best smart ass comebacks.

She married John Jasper, Sr. when she was twenty-two, and had three pretty good lookin' kids, Linda (Connors), Patty, and John Jr  (the golden child).  Soon she realized that John Sr. wasn't all he was cracked up to be, so she ditched him and the “suzy homemaker” dresses she wore, and created one hell of a life for herself and her kids.

She worked odd jobs, but her longest run was at Simplicity Pattern Company. This provided her just enough money to feed her kids, the neighborhood kids, and anyone else who walked through her door. She loved her family, Irish football, and 7 and 7's in a tall glass, fiercely.  She would give you the shirt off of her back.  She would also give you her opinion, whether you wanted it or not.  She was the reigning champion of holding the longest grudges, which sometimes resulted in a pitcher of kool-aid over your head.  She was not too afraid to throw a shoe, or whatever was handy, at you if you even thought about walking in front of the TV on game days.

She was the best grandma, hands down.  Her grandkids, Tommy (Bethan) Hamilton, Abbie (Dennis) Prenkert, Matt (Tracey) Connors, Kellie Connors and Nicole Jasper, Her great- grandkids, Emilie and Erika Bush, Brock, Brody, and Ireland Prenkert, Rockne and Holtz Hamilton, Ryan and Bryce Connors, and her great-great grandson, Karson Bush, were her pride and joy (aside from Irish football and whiskey, of course).  If you needed a shoulder to cry on, an ear to bend, or someone to make a beer run, she was your go to grandma.  She also hazed those that dared join our family, but Marlene Jasper (John), Ed Albertson (Pat), and Dennis Connors (Linda), were loved like her own.

What an amazing life she lived, not because she had a lot of money or worldly possessions, but because she made her house a home.   She was lovingly known as "ma" or "gram" to many.  She was the SUPER glue that held her family together.  Although she has left us with a heavy heart, she has given us so many memories (most of which were alcohol fueled, and people will find hard to believe happened in real-life) that will last a lifetime.

We believe that those damn Roberts kids were waiting at those pearly gates for their youngest sister (Probably Harry with a payback hammer in hand), but what makes our hearts lighter is knowing that her beautiful daughter, Linda, was waiting with open arms.  She has longed for that day for quite some time.  So, until we meet again, dance like nobody's watching, love like you've never been hurt, sing like nobody's listening, live like it's heaven on earth.... and, go IRISH!
