I was a former 4th grade student of Dr. Van Lear, and he was one of the most powerful and influential educators I would ever have in all of my schooling.
I only found out about his passing, because I had recently wrote a short story/essay and the central character in it is none other than Dr. V. I had googled his name to see if I could see what happened to him and if he cared to read the work/re-connect to an old student. The last time I saw him was leaving his 4th grade classroom in 1998.
I am very sorry to hear about his passing. To the family I extend my most sincere condolences.
Dr. V was an excellent teacher and roll model and I just wanted to let everyone know that. I will forever remember him. May he rest in peace.
