Obituary of Ruth Elaine Lower

R. Elaine Lower, 78, of Arizona, formerly of Battle Creek, Michigan, went to be with The Lord, peacefully, on August 30, 2018.

She was born on January 9, 1940 in Battle Creek to the late Earl and Lesta M. (Eberhard) Johnson.

After graduating high School, Elaine worked as an executive secretary for Kellogg’s International for several years. April 9, 1960 Elaine married Jonathan P. Lower at a ceremony in Battle Creek. In 1966 the couple moved to Louisville, Kentucky. In 1969, the Lowers moved back to Battle Creek. She assisted her husband Jonathan, who became a full-time pastor in 1971 and the couple remained there until his retirement in 1993. Reverend and Mrs. Lower were instrumental in starting the Michigan District Family Camp for the A.L.J.C. In more recent years, they enjoyed traveling the country in their motor home and wintering in Florida. After Jonathan passed away in 2008, Elaine lived full-time in Florida, where she often worked as a volunteer for a hospital. The last few years Elaine has lived in Arizona to be close to her brother, Raymond.

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Jonathan Lower; her two children, Jonathan Paul Lower, Jr. and Penny Lynn Lower, both passing away from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in 1978.

She is survived by a brother, Raymond (Fran) Johnson of Sun City West, Arizona; a cousin, Rose Sly of Bellevue; an adopted daughter, Diane (Mike) Davis of Battle Creek; A host of nieces, nephews and countless hearts she has touched.

In keeping with her wishes, funeral services will be held at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens Chapel in Battle Creek on Friday, September 7, 2018 at 2:30 p.m.
