Obituary of Anni Werner

Anni Werner, 90, of Niles passed away peacefully on Friday, July 6, 2018 at home surrounded by her family.

She was born on October 6, 1927 in Antonienhuette Kreis Kattowitz, Germany to the late Otto and Klara (Rokus) Jelen.

She married Sigmund Werner on January 21, 1956 in Stuttgart, Germany.

Anni was a longtime member of DANK, German-American National Congress, and St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.  In her younger years, she enjoyed swimming and bike riding.  Anni was an avid reader who liked her German magazines and books.  She also looked forward to playing cards and board games with her family.  Anni was always ready to go for a car ride through the countryside and watching the sunset over Lake Michigan.  She also enjoyed gathering with her Crafty Lassies friends for crafts and fellowship.  Of most importance to Anni were her family  and friends.  She loved celebrating birthday parties, special events and getting together for Sunday dinners.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Henry Benner and seven brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her three daughters, Gudrun Prestine of Niles, Dagmar (Bob) Benner of Niles, and Barbara (Jeff) Cripps of Novi.  Anni is also survived by five grandchildren, Tony Prestine, Michelle Kusnierek, Alex Benner, Tanya Cripps-Serra and Stephanie Cripps; five great-grandchildren, Mitchell, Tyler, Aubrey, Alexis, and Addison as well as several nieces and nephews.

A time of visitation will be held on Monday, July 9, 2018 at Brown Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. with Recitation of The Rosary at 7:30 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, 11 a.m. at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Rev. Father Christian Johnston officiating. An interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
