Obituary of Edward Frederick Miller

Edward F. Miller, 87, of Niles, passed away at West Woods of Niles on Wednesday evening, May 23, 2018.

He was born on November 9, 1930 in Cheboygan, Michigan to the late Edward H. and Gladys (Luth) Miller.

Ed was a lifelong Niles resident, graduating from Niles High School, class of 1948. He received his Bachelor’s degree in business administration from Michigan State University in 1953. On December 20, 1950, Ed married Delores I. Love at a ceremony at the First Presbyterian Church in Niles. Ed worked for Kawneer Corporation 1955-1973 and Gast Manufacturing from 1975-1994.

He was a member of Orchard Hills Country Club, Niles Elks Lodge, former chairmen of Greater Niles United Way, Past Commodore of the Indian Lake Yacht Club and a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Niles. Ed enjoyed golf, watching his sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports. He was an avid MSU fan.  His greatest passion was sailing, whether it was on Lake Michigan or his C-Scows on Indian Lake where is sailed competitively from 1948 until 2008.

Ed is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Delores Miller; and a sister, Jean Lindsley.

He is survived by his sons, Edward “Skip” (Jane) Miller of The Villages, Florida, Jeffrey (Sheila) Miller of Norwell, Massachusetts and Richard (Margo) Miller of Niles, ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family will gather to celebrate Ed’s life on Friday, June 29, 2018 with a time of visitation at Brown Funeral Home in Niles from 4:00pm until 7:00pm. A private committal will be held at Silverbrook Cemetery.
