Obituary of Elliott Howard Hutchins

Elliott H. Hutchins, 86, of Dowagiac, passed away on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at The Timbers of Cass County, following an illness.

He was born on September 18, 1931 in Waukegan, Illinois to the late Forest O. and Estella L. (Bacon) Hutchins.

Elliott was a farmer most of his life and enjoyed being outdoors. On December 14, 1974 Elliott married Barbara J. Lane at a ceremony in Vincennes, Indiana. Elliott also enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, spending time with his grandchildren and his golden retrievers. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Dowagiac.

He was preceded in death by his parents Forrest and Estella Hutchins; his wife Barbara; a son, Elliott “Russ” Hutchins, Jr.; and brothers, David, Harry and Forrest Hutchins.

Elliott is survived by a daughter, Ann Hutchins of Grand Rapids; five grandchildren, Jelaine (Bryan) Aprile, Ryan (April) Powers, Eric Hutchins, Amanda (Max) Cornell and Kevin Hutchins along with thirteen great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 7, 2018 at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 326 N. Lowe Street, in Dowagiac.  A memorial service to celebrate Elliott’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. followed by lunch for family and friends.  An interment will be held at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens at 2p.m. for immediate family members.
