Obituary of LaVerne Joan Marsh

LaVerne J. “Birdie” Marsh, 85, of Buchanan, passed away at her residence on Wednesday, April 11, 2018.

She was born in Buchanan on August 10, 1932 to the late Lenzy and Leonna (Stowers) Swaim.

On February 22, 1958 at a ceremony in Buchanan, LaVerne married the love of her life, Robert W. Marsh. Birdie was a wonderful homemaker, where she enjoyed flowers, making clothes, doll collecting and always feeding the birds. Her family was very special to her and God truly blessed her when she became a mother.   After her children were grown, Birdie worked for over ten years at Gerber’s, as a seamstress. In the later years, Birdie enjoyed long walks with her husband, Robert; recently celebrating sixty years of marriage. Birdie was baptized at the Methodist Church in Buchanan and was at peace with Jesus and all of her final wishes were honored.

She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Dolly Wheatley, Orpha Hawks, Earl Swaim, William Swaim, Harold Swaim, Juanita Kiel and Jessie Turtle; son, Jim Hall; daughter, Amy Marsh; a grandson, Andy Parmerlee and a great-grandson, Stetson Hack.

Birdie is survived by her loving husband, Robert Marsh of Buchanan; children, Debra (Jim) Tomcik of California, Terri (John) Parmerlee of Florida and Timothy (Susan) Marsh of Buchanan; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and countless friends.

In keeping with Birdie’s wishes, her family will gather privately at her residence to remember her. A public celebration of Birdie’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at the American Legion Post 51 in Buchanan, Michigan.

In lieu of flowers, her family has asked for memorial contributions to be designated to Hospice at Home (Caring Circle), SMCAS or to a charity of one’s choice.
