Obituary of Edna Mae Croom

Edna M. Croom, 80 years, 11 months and 24 days, of Niles, went to be at rest at Riveridge Manor in Niles on Monday, March 19, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on March 23, 1937 to the late Samuel and Rosa L. (Bell) Wright in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. 

In 1961 at a ceremony in Arkansas she married Matt Croom and to that marriage, six children were born. Edna was a hard worker and retired from Lakeland Hospital after thirty years of dedicated service. She was a woman of great faith and always had a servant’s heart. Edna was a loving mother and grandmother and it extended to many outside of her family as she was a foster-grandparent. She will also be remembered for her great sense of humor and her strength. She was a former member of Faith Apostolic Church in South Bend where she served on the usher board and the mothers’ board, she was more recently a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Niles.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Samuel Wright and Rosa L. Wilburn; two sisters; two brothers; one grandchild and four great-grandchildren.

Edna leaves to cherish her memory her children, Larry and (Joy) Allums of Indianapolis, Indiana, Reginald (Valray) Croom of Niles, Kenneth (Margaret) Croom of Niles, Deborah (Haskel) Woodard of Niles, Janice Croom of Niles and Theresa Croom of South Bend; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; along with a host of extended family.

A Homegoing and Birthday celebration service will be held on Friday, March 23, 2018 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 601 Ferry Street in Niles at 12:00 pm with a time of visitation one hour prior. An interment will be held at Union Cemetery.
