Obituary of William Paul Mottl

William “Bill” P. Mottl, 84, of Buchanan, passed away peacefully at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph on Saturday, February 24, 2018.

Bill was born in Buchanan, Michigan on August 14, 1933, to the late Joseph and Anna Mottl.  He was one of 9 children growing up in the Mottl household. 

In April of 1959, Bill wed Janet Marquardt and the two began their family. They raised their children on the farm that Bill grew up on in Buchanan.  Bill was an Army Veteran and retired from Clark Equipment Company.  He enjoyed fishing, telling jokes, and spending time with his family.  He holds the family record for fishing as recent as 2017.  He will be missed by all that knew him. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet, his parents, and seven siblings.

Bill is survived by his children, Paula (Tim) Witherow of Buchanan, Sheila (Chuck) Letcher of Buchanan, Dorothy (Kevin Barker) Mottl of Dowagiac, Bill (Melinda) Mottl of Niles, and Gwen Mottl of South Bend; grandchildren, Brandon  Witherow (Audrey Heitz), Timothy (Kristen) Witherow, Michael (Hannah) Witherow, Trevor (Christine) Witherow, Lauren Witherow, Belinda (Erich) Dieter, Carrie (Dan) Thompson, Angie (Michael) Spayde, Rachel (Ian) Miller, Rebecca Letcher, Aaron Forburger (Devon Ownby), Allexia (Matt) Money, Whitney Shearer, Kyler Searer, and Gabrielle Mottl; fourteen great-grandchildren; sister, Evelyn Lambert of LaPorte, Indiana; and many extended family members and close friends.

In keeping with Bill’s wishes, he has been cremated.  His family will be hosting a celebration of his life at the Buchanan Senior Center located at 810 Rynearson Road in Buchanan on Saturday, March 10, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
