Obituary of Willie Sam Warren
Willie Sam Warren, 73, of Buchanan, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, February 21, 2018. He was a faithful member of Peace Temple COGIC for several years where he was very proud of his position as the Head Deacon. When asked, “Dad what does the Head Deacon do?” He proudly replied “Well, Kelly if the pastor can’t be there to bring the sermon, I got to step up to the plate. That’s why I got to be right.”
Willie was born on October 11, 1944, to the late Willie and Carrie (Frazier) Warren in Augusta, Georgia where he was born number six of ten. Willie attended and graduated from Buchanan High School in 1964 where he shined on both the football field and basketball court. He went on to play on a semi-pro football team.
Also, in 1964 he married Minnie Macon and began his family, born to that union was Kelly, Willis, and Christopher. Willie then went to work for Clark Equipment Company where he remained until the plant closed causing him to retire. Not being one to sit idle Willie then found employment as a Die Cast Operator with ICG where he stayed until his second retirement.
Willie was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Carrie Warren and six siblings, Mamie Crump, Thelma Hicks, Willa Mae Hough, Richard Warren, Betty Perkins, and Jerry Warren.
He is survived by his loving children, Kelly Hatcher, Willis Warren, and Christopher “Chris” (Tracey) Hatcher; grandchildren, Kathryn Warren, Lauren (Roosevelt) Whitaker, Brittney Wolverton, Zecharias Warren, Tania Warren, and Trace Hatcher; great-grandchildren, Morgan, Maiya, Dominic, and Trinity; and siblings, Vernetha Greene, Ella Mae (Robert) Shelby, and Virven (Sharon) Warren.
Willie loved spending time with his great-grandchildren going to their activities at school and making sure they were in Sunday School every Sunday morning. The only thing he loved more was waxing and rubbing on his car no matter the weather. He would say, “You gotta have a good shammy to get a good shine.”
Homegoing services will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at Peace Temple Church of God in Christ located at 102 Andrew Street in Dowagiac at 1:00 p.m. with a time of visitation one hour prior. Pastor Tracey Hatcher will be officiating.
You can rest in peace now Daddy we love you, but God loves you best.
