Obituary of Richard A. Wood

Richard A. Wood, 78, of Lawrence passed away Tuesday. February 20, 2018, at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph, after a brief illness.

On March 24, 1939, Richard was born to the late Kenneth and Vivian (Decker) Wood in South Haven, Michigan.

After graduating from South Haven High School, Richard went on to serve his country proudly in the United States Army.  He worked for many years as a machinist and retired from Ausco in 2001.

On August 26, 1983 he wed Kathleen Aguilar at a ceremony in Coloma, Michigan.  They were able to celebrate 34 wonderful years together.

A jack of all trades, Richard had many skills and enjoyed several hobbies.  He was an avid train collector, skilled at leather crafting and woodworking and an amazing cook.  However, what brought Richard most joy was spending time with his five “girls”.

Richard is preceded by his parents, Kenneth and Vivian Wood, his two brothers; Donald and Bruce Wood and his sisters; Diana Bogart and Joan Wood.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Kathy Wood, his four sons; Richard (Donna) Wood, Jr., Kenneth (Jo) Wood, Daniel Wood, Donald Wood, his daughters; Lisa (Tim) Aguilar and Tina Aguilar and three daughters from a previous marriage.  His memories will continue to live on with his special granddaughter, Amanda (Shavarr) Goodloe, granddaughters;  Zoey, Mercedes, and Aubrey, his grandsons; Ken, Michael, Diezel, Nathan, and Peyton.  A very special great-granddaughter, Brianna Goodloe and a host of other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  He is also survived by his sisters; Jan Rorrick, Karen Sink, Kathy (Gerald) Thiebeault, and Vicki (Norman) Fleanor.

Services to honor Richard’s life will be Friday, February 23, 2018, at 3:30 in the afternoon at the North Shore Memory Gardens Chapel, Coloma, Michigan.
