Karen Louise (Zernia) Staples, 67, of Harbert, MI passed away at West Woods of Bridgman, on Sunday, February 4, 2018.

 

Karen, born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was the first born child of the late Eugene and Esther (Freshour) Zernia. She wed Donald Staples at a ceremony in Chicago, in June of 1978. Karen worked in printing and banking for many years and retired from New Buffalo Savings Bank. Karen enjoyed traveling, bowling and winning big at the casino slot machines. She loved spending time with family and friends and was known as a very good cook.

 

She is survived by her step-children, Don Staples and Donna Staples-Johnson; grandchildren, DJ Johnson and Vinny Johnson; siblings, Elaine (Raymond) Monroe, Jerry (Peggy) Zernia, Shari Kilheeney, David (Maribeth) Zernia, Mark (Krista) Zernia, and Andy (Chris Scott) Zernia; her aunt, Sharon (Dodo) Otto; dear friend Wilma Burkholder and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband. Karen will be laid to rest with her husband at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan at a later date.
