Obituary of Roy Delano Glass

Roy “Captain” Delano Glass, 72, of Buchanan, passed away at Memorial Hospital in South Bend on Wednesday, January 3, 2018.

 

Captain was born on September 3, 1945, to the late Gilbert and Irene in Blytheville, Arkansas.  Captain was raised in Niles and graduated from Niles High School. He went on to proudly serve in the United States Army where he was stationed in Vietnam from December of 1965 to December of 1967.  Captain went on to further his education and work in engineering at several factories and machine shops. On June 1, 2016, he wed Sky Shorthill.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert Glass and Irene Nielson and daughter Marcy Ann Glass in 1971.  Shortly after Captain’s death his Aunt Betty True also passed away.

 

Captain is survived by his wife, Sky Shorthill who he affectionately referred to as “Smurf”; a step-daughter; brother, Jerry Glass of Niles; nephews, Steven of Niles, David of Mishawaka, and Jeffrey of Niles; great-nephews Owen and Colton of Niles; great-niece Ashley of Niles; cousins Jacquelyn and Kenny of Niles; and many extended family members and friends.

 

Funeral honors for Captain will be held at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, on Friday, February 16th at 1:00 p.m.
