Obituary of Larry A. Tompkins

Larry A. Tompkins, 57, of Clearwater, Florida, with his family at his side, was ushered from this world into the presence of God on June 28, 2014 at Suncoast Hospice, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Vicksburg, Michigan to the late Raymond and Loretta (Harber) Tompkins on September 5, 1956. Later in Larry's life he met the woman who would prove to be not only his constant companion and best friend but also the love of his life, Jeanie Ludwig. They wed on September 7, of 2002 at a ceremony in Battle Creek, Michigan. After many years of service at Canteen in Kalamazoo, Larry and Jeanie moved to Florida, where he worked for the last several years at St. Petersburg-Clearwater Airport. Larry was a man who enjoyed life. He loved to laugh and bring laughter into other people's lives and always wore a smile. He enjoyed long drives along the gulf coast admiring the beautiful homes and he was also a love of American history. He was a member of New Destiny Worship Center and was involved in the Primetimers Ministry and also a part of the greeting committee. Larry's greatest passion was his family; anytime spent with Jeanie, their children or grandchildren was always time he cherished. He was preceded by his parents Raymond and Loretta Tompkins. Larry is survived by his wife, Jeanie of Clearwater, Florida and his three daughters; Dana Tompkins of Bangor, Michigan, Jaime Maddix of Safety Harbor, Florida and Mindy Wilson of Bloomington, Illinois. He is also survived by his two brothers Randall Tompkins, Daniel Tompkins, a sister, Catherine Tompkins all of Michigan, and five grandchildren. Services for Larry will be Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 7 O'clock in the evening with visitation beginning at 5 O'clock in the evening at New Destiny Worship Center, 2110 N Hercules Ave, Clearwater, FL 33763 with Pastor Anthony Ballestero officiating. A graveside interment will be held at Schoolcraft Township Cemetery in Michigan on Sunday, July 13th at 3:00 p.m. Donations can be made to Jeanie Tompkins, c/o Brown Funeral Home 521 East Main Street; Niles, MI 49120.
