Obituary of Merlyn Tanner

Merlyn "Slim" Tanner, 95, formerly of Benton Harbor, passed away suddenly, but of natural causes, in Peru, Indiana on Monday, July 7, 2014. He was born in Lyons, Ohio on August 31, 1918 to the late Albert and Florence E. (Huyck) Tanner. On April 9, 1944 he married Betty L. Haney at a ceremony in Watervliet, Michigan. Together they had four children. Merlyn retired from John G. Yearington Construction after more than 40 years of service. Merlyn is preceded in death by his parents, wife Betty, daughter Beth Dickey and brothers Richard and Lyle Tanner. He is survived by his children Jeffrey (Joyce) Tanner of Peru, Dennis (Linda) Tanner of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Timothy (Cheryl) Tanner of Harrison, Michigan; grandchildren David Tanner of Bristol, Indiana, Ellen Tanner of Peru, Amanda Tanner of Indianapolis, Indiana, Emily Alana of Maryland, Timothy Tanner of Ohio and Adam Tanner of Racine, Wisconsin and eight great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at North Shore Memory Gardens on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 11:00 a.m.
