Obituary of Florence L. Wood

Florence L. Wood, 90, of Niles, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at West Woods of Niles. She was born on February 1st, 1924 to the late Russell and Rosa (Brewer) Henry in Decatur, Michigan and raised most of her life by her grandparents John and Minnie Brewer. Florence was married to William Ray Liggett in 1942 and had one son William Ray Liggett, Jr. William Sr. was killed in France during World War II. Florence married Edwin Bachman Sr., who is now deceased, and had two children Edwin E. Bachman Jr. and Linda Kay Bachman. Florence married John U. Wood on November 29, 1962 at a ceremony in Niles and they were married 46 years. Florence was a member of the Niles Seventh-Day Adventist Church and the T.OP.S. Club for many years. In 1991 founded the Niles Four Flags Desert Storm Support Group. She loved her family and friends and liked doing ceramics and reading. Florence is survived by sons William Ray Jr. (Vicki) Liggett of South Bend, Edwin Jr. (Alona) Bachman of Niles, a daughter Linda Bachman and her special friend Nancy Glassburn both of Niles, two grandsons, two great-grandsons and a brother Harland (Lucille) Adams of Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John Wood, two step-sons John Jr. and Carl Wood, and a brother Thomas Manning of Lawton, Oklahoma. Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 1, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Niles with a time of visitation one hour prior. An interment will follow at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens.
