Obituary of Carol Ann Mansfield

Carol Ann Mansfield, 62, of Niles, passed away at her home on Thursday, October 9, 2014. Carol was born on May 5, 1952 to Robert and Carol (Thomas) Mansfield in Niles, Michigan. After graduating from Niles High School in 1969, Carol went on to have three children. She was an Employment Training Specialist, who worked with adults, helping to get them acclimated to living and working on their own and teaching them needed skills. Carol was a vibrant and outgoing person who not only wanted to try new things, but to also excel. She volunteered with 4-H We Can Ride for over 30 years, as well as volunteering with the Therapeutic Equestrian Center, N.A.F.E.C., as a CPR and first aid instructor for The American Red Cross, and was a Past Madam President of the Eagles Women's Auxiliary Aerie 2094 in Niles, where she was a faithful member for many years. Carol was also excellent at Tae Kwon Do; so good that she competed and won a national championship for her age bracket against men and women from all over the country. She has touched many lives in this community with her kind spirit and willingness to help others, and instilling these values in her family, whom she cherished and loved most of all. Carol was preceded in death by her father, Robert Mansfield and her mother, Carol Thomas. She is survived by her children Shana (Brian) Ferris of Niles, Erica (Brad) Trent of Lakewood, Colorado and Rob Widman of Lakewood, Colorado, and three siblings Leo (Glenda) Curtis of Niles, Robalyn (Bobbie and Joe) Benak of Buchanan, and Bill (Sue) Mansfield of Niles. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Brown Funeral Home in Niles at 2:00 p.m. with a time of visitation two hours prior.
