Obituary of Richard Akers

Richard Akers, 83, passed away at his home in Niles on Sunday, September 24, 2017. Dick was born on January 31, 1934, to the late Clive and Evah Akers in Lawrenceville, Illinois. On July 3, 1953, Dick wed Nellie Tittle at a ceremony in Niles. This year the two proudly celebrated 64 years of marriage. When Dick was younger he enjoyed working on cars, restoring them with his friends and then selling them to do it all over again. He worked for National Standard and retired after 33 years. He currently loved riding on his golf cart and his beloved dog, Peanut. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clive and Evah and daughters, Diana and Renee Akers. Dick is survived by his wife, Nellie Akers of Niles; children, Donna (Dennis) Erhardt of Niles, Richard (Starla) Akers of Lubbock, Texas, Fred Akers of Niles, Ron (Val) Akers of Osceola, Raymond (Cindy) Akers of Lawrenceville, Debra (George) Zelmer of Dowagiac, Roger (Janet) Akers of Lawrenceville, Darlene Akers of Niles and Randy (Traci) Akers of Evansville, Indiana; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and close friends. Funeral services to honor Dick's life will be held on Friday, September 29, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. with a time of visitation one hour prior.
