Alma Ione Rand, 93, of Niles, formerly of Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan, passed away at Brentwood Assisted Living, on Tuesday, October 21, 2014, following an illness.
She was born on May 28, 1921 to Clifford and Flora (Lemeux) LaJoice in De Tour, Michigan. Alma was married to Col. Richard S. Rand USA Ret., for 49 years.
Alma is survived by two of her four children, Patricia Gardner (Richard) of Wesley Chapel, Florida and Claudia Prout (Gerald) of Fairfax Station, Virginia, her sister Rose Gerrish of LaPorte, Indiana, and eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, her daughter Geraldine Sturgeon of Stevensville, Michigan and her son, Richard S. Rand, Jr. of Barbeau, Michigan.
Alma enjoyed seeing the world with her husband and family during their many years in the military. She also loved fishing, bowling, playing golf and quilting. She was a proud member of The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of the Chippewa Indians.
A Private Family committal will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery where her husband is buried.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Niles.
