Obituary of Schuyler Kellogg

Schuyler Patrick Kellogg, 88, of Niles, Michigan, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 18, 2017. He was born on January 20, 1929 in Flint, Michigan to the late Norman and Winifred (Johnson) Kellogg. He was the third of six children. Sky attended Cassopolis Union School, college at Michigan State University and served proudly in the U.S. Navy. Sky returned home and married his sweetheart and love, Charleen Reneberg in 1953. They had three children and enjoyed 56 years of marriage together. They resided in Hartford, Michigan for most of their lives, and then retired to Niles. Schuyler was a respected and accomplished member of the community. He bought Kellogg Hardware in 1956 and was a partner in hardware stores in Lawrence and Watervliet. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #309, a member of Elks Lodge #889 and a member of the Michigan Retail Hardware Association. He also served on the Board of Directors at Van Buren State Bank in Hartford, Michigan, First National Bank, in Watervliet, Michigan and the Fruit Belt Credit Union, in Hartford, Michigan. More importantly, Sky will be remembered for his generous heart, his warm smile and unconditional love and friendship. He had a quick wit and a great laugh. To spend time with Sky was to feel known and honored by his attention and presence. He is preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Winifred, a brother, Norman, and his wife, Charleen. Sky has left a legacy of love and kindness for those who survive him. His children, Karen Kellogg of Niles, Mark (Carrie) Kellogg of Watervliet and Christopher (David Venne) of Grand Rapids. His siblings, Sheila Fritz, Judy (Richard) Richter, Free (Lynn) Kellogg and Tom Kellogg. Grandchildren, Megan (Neil) Bahbah, Norman Kellogg and Gina Kellogg. Great Grandchildren, Jake and Nico Bahbah. His loving friend Jeri Simmons and so many special friends, too many to name. Visitation will be held beginning at 1 pm on Saturday, September 2nd, 2017 followed by a memorial service at 2 pm at Hartford Federated Church, at 65418 Red Arrow Hwy in Hartford. Donations may be made in Schuyler's memory to Hartford Public Schools Foundation for Quality Education, 115 School Street, Hartford, Michigan 49057.
