Roger George Day, 81, of Niles, passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at Brentwood of Niles. Roger was born on October 13, 1935, to George O. and Irna R. (Diehl) Day in East Chicago Heights, Illinois. Roger married the former Doreen Mains on March 16, 1957 in Northampton, England. He was a man of faith. Roger spent many hours studying the bible, teaching bible studies and for a brief time pastoring a church in Georgia. He was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Michigan State football team. Roger would often spend his free time bird watching or tending to his vegetable garden. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Geoffrey Day; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Simanton-Carlisle. Roger is survived by his wife, Doreen Day of Niles; his children, Carol (Dan) Podjan of Florida; Stephen (Sandra) Day of Florida; Jackie (Richard) Murdock of Niles, MI; David (Jan) Day of Georgia; Bryan (Kristee) Day of North Carolina and Elizabeth Day of Georgia; sixteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren and a sister, Marlene Day of North Carolina. The family will gather at a later time for a memorial service.
