Obituary of James Pappas

James "Jim" Edward Pappas, 77, of Benton Harbor Michigan passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2015 at his home, with his family surrounding him. Jim was born to the late Gus and Bernice (Johnson) Pappas in Chicago, Illinois on August 8, 1937. Upon graduation Jim served his country proudly as part of the United States Marines. When he returned home he met and then courted Carol Ellingham. They wed on June 20, 1959 at a ceremony in Palos, Illinois. Jim worked for over 18 years at Ausco in Benton Harbor, retiring as the plant manager; not being able to sit idle Jim went back to work for the Herald Palladium for 7 years. Jim's roots were very tied to Chicago and for that reason he was an avid Chicago Bears and Chicago White Sox sports enthusiast. He also enjoyed his time bowling, out on the golf course, or casting his line in the waters waiting for the next "big one". He always had a soft spot for their dogs as well. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Laura Knight, his son James Pappas, his two brothers and his two sisters. He is survived by his wife Carol of Benton Harbor, his son David Pappas of Benton Harbor, granddaughter Emily (Christopher) Carroll of Indianapolis, Indiana, his great-grandson Miles Carroll, and his sister Sally (Larry) Ziegler of Fort Pierce, Florida. In accordance with Jim's wishes cremation has taken place and the family will be having a service at a later date.
