Obituary of Dennis Wade Calkins

Dennis Wade Calkins, 67, of Niles, passed away on October 13, 2017 at his residence, following years of breathing complications.
He was born on May 20, 1950 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Donald E and Phyllis (Henning) Calkins.
He graduated from Dowagiac Union High School, class of 1968. Dennis was an insulator and traveled the world for his profession. After retiring from Local #75 Heat and Frost of South Bend, Dennis decided to open Inbetween Bar and was the owner from 1997-2007. He loved his man cave and watching football, especially University of Michigan. He was involved in the Sumnerville-Pokagon Special Olympics.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Denise Calkins; and a son Kurt Calkins.
He is survived by his daughter, Dawn Calkins of Minong, Wisconsin; a son, John (Jen) Calkins of Tellico Planes, Tennessee; fourteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Debbie Hogan of California; two brothers, Donald (Kim) Calkins of Buchanan and David (Nancy) Calkins of North Carolina.
Family and friends will gather on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at 3:00 pm at the American Legion Post 51, 403 E. Front Street in Buchanan, Michigan for a time of sharing food and memories.
Memorial contributions may be made in Dennis' memory to Great Lakes Hospice.
