Obituary of John Westerhoven

John Westerhoven, 83, of Eau Claire, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo. He was born in Berrien Township on December 17, 1931 to the late Henry J. and Sophia E. (Apeldorn) Westerhoven. John graduated from Benton Harbor High School, class of 1949. On June 24, 1956 John married Nancy Jane Coon at a ceremony in Bainbridge Township. He worked for over 16 years for the Heath Company, where he worked in the paint department as a supervisor. John left the Heath Company in 1970 to pursue his passion of farming which he thoroughly enjoyed until retiring in 2005. John enjoyed time outdoors; hunting, fishing and his fish pond as well as his travels to local casinos. His greatest love was that of his family and spending time with his grandchildren brought him the greatest joy. John was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Gertrude Wright and a brother Henry Westerhoven. He is survived by his wife Nancy J. Westerhoven of Eau Claire, a son Larry (Denise) Westerhoven of Eau Claire, a daughter Jill (Randy) Wolf of Eau Claire, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a sister Betty Westerhoven of Twin Falls, Idaho. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice. John's family will honor his request to remember him privately.
