I can't go a day without thinking about the best grandpa in the world. He pushed me beyond my limits. We shared so many memories together. We were so close. I Miss him so much and Still think about him everyday. I wish I could just talk to him again. Papa and I were extremely close and We did so much together. Watching Some old western movies or watching one of his favorites The Andy Griffith Show. We always watched tv together. We talked on the phone for hours every day after school. If I was stressed out about school or stressed about something Papa always knew what to say to relax me and calm me down. I really miss him and will never forget him. He is my hero! I love You papa! Your gone but never forgotten! RIP PAPA! I love you!

Mr Fred was the absolute beacon of Oak Manor. 35 years since I attended Oak Manor, more than almost any other memory of my elementary school, I remember his smile, his kindness and how he made everyone so comfortable around him. I remember him bringing chocolate milk to my kindergarten class and I always enjoyed seeing him, even more than the chocolate milk. What amazes me is the power and influence this kind man had in the lives of so many - because he exemplified love. My encounters with him throughout the years were brief but his impression was lasting. I remember that he could make me feel special out of all the kids in the school. I was not just a number.
Dear Mr Fred: You may never know the distance and depth by which one kind word and smile shall impress on the hearts you encounter. However, your lifetime of kindness and joy shared with all whom you've met, will undoubtedly reach far beyond your lifetime and continue to plant seeds of compassion for many future generations. Thank you for the example and legacy you leave us.
To his family: Thank you for sharing him with us. My deepest sympathies for your tremendous loss. I'm sure he's in heaven now spreading the kindness and joy like he did here on earth.

Seattle Washington

Always had a kind word to say ! This man touched so many lives over the years . so many memories , but one stands out ! we we're playing east side in a fifth grade basketball game. I brought the ball down and was being defending by Marcus Hatcher ! he was all over me , I turned and shot from half court ! drained it ! Mr. Fred called TIME OUT ! TIME OUT! When i got over to the bench I asked him , what did you call time out for? Mr. Fred said ... i have know idea! and we all just laughed.

Mr. Fred, I still use the left handed golf clubs you gave me. I still get made fun of because they are 70's looking and I have had a few irons heads fly off when I hit the ball but I always tell them how great the man is that gave them to me so they are still the best clubs. You will be missed and you will forever be the greatest and friendliest guy in the world. I wish I could call your house and have you answer the phone "Fred's Chinese Pizza!"

As an Oak Manor kid you didn't get through a day of school without getting a friendly smile, a nod or a "snappity clap whistle" combo from Mr. Fred. One day he took a few minutes during lunch time to give us a lesson on the finer points of the performing the "snappity-clap". We proceded to perfect the fancy hand gesture during recess only to finish off the day annoying the teachers with it in class.
He would be Santa for the school back when people didn't have a fit over such things, and as far as I'm concerned Santa had nothing on Mr. Fred. When it came to real kindness and knack for bringing a smile to a kids face, well, Mr. Fred did that every day.
I'm glad I had the chance to know him outside of school. He was well loved and will be missed.

The world will be a lesser place with the passing of "Fast Freddie", he was always there for us as a coach and a friend, not to mention a neighbor. He was one of the most important people in my childhood. He taught not just me but many, many others about fair play, sportsmanship, and how to be accepting of every person we came across. On his team, everyone got a chance to play, Didn't matter if you were good, bad or some where in-between. He always had a smile for everyone and loved to make you laugh. Wish there were more people like him in this world, he will be missed and remembered often by those of us who crossed his path in this life.......and to Donna, Donnie, Danny, Diane, and Rodney, my families deepest sympathies to all of you..... He was a good man, and thank you for sharing him with us all...
