Obituary of Mary C Etzcorn

Mary Catherine (Prestine) Etzcorn, 83, of Hickory Street, Niles, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Lakeland Specialty Hospital in Berrien Springs, following an illness. She was born on November 26, 1929 to the late John A. and Grace M. (Rood) Prestine in Niles. Mary graduated Niles High School Class of 1948 and while her health allowed, enjoyed her monthly luncheons with her classmates. On October 23, 1948 she married Lyle P. Etzcorn at a ceremony in Niles. Mary worked for a number of years at Tony's Market in the produce department. When not working outside of the home, Mary was a wonderful homemaker. She attended St. Mark Catholic Church where she was involved with the St. Mark Christian Mothers. She enjoyed bingo, playing cards and slot machines. Mary and her family spent many summers at Lake of the Woods in Decatur, Michigan and often she and Lyle wintered in Venice, Florida. She will be loved and missed greatly by her children, grandchildren and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Mary is survived by a daughter Marge Varga of Niles, two sons Daniel (Mary) Etzcorn of Niles and Robert (Patricia) Etzcorn of Homer Glen, Illinois, six grandchildren; Adam and Keith Varga, Nick Etzcorn, Bruce Etzcorn, Kelly Welsh and Rodney Blue along with several great-grandchildren. A celebration of Mary's life will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Mission Hills Memorial Chapel at 61453 M-51 in Niles with a time of visitation beginning one hour prior. An interment will follow at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made in Mary's memory to the Alzheimr's Association, Southwest Michigan Chapter 2727 S. 11th Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49009.
