Obituary of Mary Maddox

Mary Louise (Antisdel) Maddox, 80, of Dowagiac, and formerly of St. Joseph, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 16, 2017, at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville. Mary was born on January 27, 1937, to the late Robert and Mary Louise (Alexis) Antisdel in Niles, Michigan. On June 6, 1954, Mary wed Robert Maddox at a ceremony in Hartford, Michigan. Mary worked at Ponderosa for 25 years. She was a wonderful wife, loving mother and the best sister to her family. She was a strong woman who bravely fought cancer and other serious health issues. She loved her home, music, walking, flowers, and humming birds. Mary was a lifetime member of the Pokagon Band of the Potawatomi Indians. When her family thinks of her, one word always comes up "Faith". She was a firm believer in God and always prayed for others. Even though she will be missed, her family knows she is in God's loving care. She has been reunited with the love of her life, Robert. Mary and Robert had 31 wonderful years together and raised three daughters. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mary Louise Antisdel; husband, Robert Maddox; and sister, Jacklyn Genereaux. Mary is survived by her children, Sandra (Rob) Gatties of Dowagiac, Cindy Lou Maddox of South Bend, and Sherri (Gary) Ryan of Stevensville; six grandchildren, Brooke Maddox of Benton Harbor, Carlee Maddox of St. Joseph, Lauren Maddox of Lansing, Jason Gatties of Dowagiac, Chris Gatties of Hartford and Brandon Gatties of Dowagiac; eight great-grandchildren, Maya and Jack Murphy of St. Joseph, Isabella and Roman Botelho of Benton Harbor, Dylan Gatties of Eau Claire, Sinoia Gatties of Dowagiac, and Alora and Audra Gatties of Hartford; two great-great-grandchildren, Caylan and Ayden Gatties; siblings, James Manning of Valinda, California, Shirley (William) Sigfrids of Niles, Robert Antisdel of Lawton, Richard Antisdel of Battle Creek, Martha Mcconnell of Dowagiac, Patricia Sue (Brian) Andrews of Mishawaka, and Kenneth Antisdel of Dowagiac; and many extended family members and close friends. Funeral services to honor Mary's life will be held on Friday, October 20, 2017, at Mission Hills Memorial Chapel, 61453 M-51 North, Niles, at Noon with a time of visitation beginning two hours prior.
