Obituary of Murvin Stone Harrell

Murvin S. "Pete" Harrell, 83, of Niles, went to be with our Lord, on Monday, April 22, 2013, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 24, 1930 in Itawamba County, Mississippi to the late Murvin R. and Erma M. (Stone) Harrell. On July 17, 1950 Pete married Helen P. "Polly" Anderson at a ceremony in Red Bay, Alabama. Pete worked for many years for Conrail Freight where he retired as a conductor in 1992. He also worked for several years locally in construction. Pete and Polly enjoyed spending winters in Mississippi. He was an avid vegetable gardener, a gifted woodworker and an outdoorsman, spending time fishing and hunting. He was a faithful member of First Missionary Church in Niles. In keeping with his love of outdoors and his passion to serve his church, Pete looked forward every year to assisting the Harvest Extravaganza. Pete's family was extremely important to him, especially his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Helen "Polly" Harrell in 2005, and a brother Edward Harrell. Pete is survived by two sons Lewis (Rachael) Harrell and Steve Harrell of Niles, a daughter Kim (David) Morse of Niles, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three brothers; Jimmy (Elizabeth) Harrell of Columbus, Mississippi, Terry (Dorothy) Harrell of Fulton, Mississippi and Tommy (Linda) Harrell of Douglasville, Georgia and a sister-in-law Shirley Harrell of Tupelo, Mississippi.
