Obituary of Janice Kay Jacobsen

Janice Kay (Hackett) Jacobsen, 77, of Watervliet passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2017, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Janice was born on April 28, 1940, to the late Wilson L. and F. Catherine (Lewis) Hackett in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She was a 1958 graduate of Plainwell High school in Plainwell, MI. She was a student at Western Michigan University before marrying the love of her life, Richard A. Jacobsen on July 11, 1959 in the Kanley Chapel on the Western Michigan University campus. Janice and Richard were very instrumental in raising and caring for twenty-nine foster children. She was a real estate agent for many years before retiring in 2013. She is preceded in death by her parents; Wilson L. Hackett and F. Catherine (Lewis) Hackett-Youngs. Janice is survived by her husband, Richard Jacobsen of Watervliet; children, Kim Lerch of Watervliet; Rick Jacobsen of Waterford; and Scott (Frankie) VanderWall of Delton; nine grandchildren; one great grandchild and one great grandchild due in December; a sister, Norma Smith of Otsego; along with three nieces, Christy, Suzanne and Samantha. A "Celebration of Life" observance to honor Janice's life will be held on November 18, 2017 , at 1-4pm, at "His Place Outreach Center", 15 S Maple St., Hartford MI 49057. Memorial contributions may be made in Janice's memory to Richard Jacobsen, 68706 68th Ave, Watervliet MI 49098.
