Obituary of Scott James Anderson

Rev. Scott J. Anderson, 64, of Niles, passed away at his residence, following a brief illness, on Friday, September 11, 2015. He was born on January 28, 1951 in Hastings, Michigan to the late Canon Rev. Vincent J. and Mary C. (Gill) Anderson. Rev. Anderson was a 1969 graduate of Niles High School and graduated from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids in 1973 and received a Masters of Divinity from Nashotah House Seminary in Nashotah, Wisconsin. On August 16, 1974 he married Lorraine E. Luke at St. Andrews Church in Rochester, Michigan. In 1980 Rev. Anderson served as Curate (Assistant Rector) at St. Phillips Episcopal Church in Joplin, Missouri. In 1983 became the Vicar of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. Rev. Anderson was called as Rector to St. John's Episcopal Church in Ionia, Michigan, serving until his retirement in 2006. During his ministry he served as a hospital and hospice chaplain and very involved in youth work in the Diocese of West Missouri and Western Michigan. His hobbies included golfing, an avid University of Michigan Football fan and a Civil War buff. Rev. Anderson valued mostly his time spent with his wife and daughter Kristen in their many travels. Rev. Anderson is survived by his wife Lorraine Anderson of Niles, a daughter Kristen Anderson of Mishawaka, a brother Dr. Craig (Gail) Anderson of Granger as well as several nieces and nephews. A time of visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Brown Funeral Home in Niles from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Kalamazoo, Michigan on Wednesday September 16, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. with Bishop Wayne Hougland officiating. An interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township, Michigan. In keeping with his ministry to children, memorial contributions may be made in Rev. Anderson's memory to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
