Rick was like a dad to me . I will always remember all the things he taught me about selling concrete statues, birdbaths, benches .planters ect . buying wholesale for 30 years then about 7 years ago he showed me how to make my own products and sold me some of his molds and started me in the business I am in now , then helped and watched me make my own molds . I will always remember his laugh, and his stories !!!. we had many a talk about eternity and our LORD JESUS so I know for sure I will see him again someday in heaven . He was a great man who will be missed by all who knew him . He very well could be making statuaries right now in heaven out of pure gold and giving them free to all who want. I shared a chat with Rick in the Meijer parking no long ago. I was surprised to read of his passing. I worked with Rick at Whirlpool for about 40 years.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. BCYF and The Rabbit Barn will not be the same without him. I spent every summer at the fair with my grandfather Lenard Lidberg. I used to call my grandpa, Don, and Rick the 3 amigos. I was sad to have to share his passing with my grandpa. My grandparents Lenard and Ella, my mom Pam, and 3 aunts Alicia, Christina, and Deanna are praying for comfort for his family at this difficult time!!!!!!!!!!

It was always a pleasure to wait on Rick at United Federal Credit Union. He always had a story to share. Whenever Rick would see me at Meijer he'd stop and say hello.

Rick was a regular at the counter at Bob Evans, I being a manager always made time to say hello. His stories were always eventful and some of them funny. We talked about our joint dislike for ND football every Sunday morning. He will be missed at the counter by the staff and by all the others the encountered as he sat and drank his coffee. To his family my deepest sympathy.

I am so sorry for your loss. I very much enjoyed my visits with Rick at Dr. Garrone's office in Watervliet and later at Family Farm & Home in Benton Harbor. It was a sad day when I would go into Family Farm & Home and NOT see Rick. He will be greatly missed.

I just stopped in at Bob Evans to catch you to have coffee with YOU, like we talked about a couple weeks back. Like we been doing for the last 30+ years off and on at BE. Especially when I lived on Morgan Road, right around the corner from y'all. Was going to tell you about my father's (Don Smith - 94) passing last Sat at Crown Pointe rest home - Stevensville, Mi. I was shocked to hear it from a waitress that you had passed. Knowing you and dad you'll both enjoy each other's company. You will be missed my friend!

Rick never failed to stop his vehicle and say hello and chat for awhile whenever he saw me out with the dog, taking a walk or running on the street. He always had a big smile and was happy to share a bit of news and see how we were doing. He will surely be missed!

Rick was a big light in the BCYF rabbit barn. This is where I met him many years ago when I was a young exhibitor. He would show me where my cages were and when asked, he would always help or give me pointers. Many years past when I met his son Joe along with his children (Ricks grandchildren). Little did I know that this man was Ricks son. Not until I was invited to a get together at Joe's home that I realized that Rick was his dad. We sat around the fire pit sharing stories of the rabbit barn and many adventures that he had. He was a major light in the family and he will be dearly missed. Many young exhibitors will never know his laugh or how happy of a guy he was. I will miss walking into Family Farm and Home and not have him standing there talking with anyone that could be drawn to his wonderful personality. God bless you Rick and keep his hand on the family in the time of need.
