Obituary of Katherine Clawson

Katherine "Kay" (Roins) Clawson, 90, most recently of Bridgman and Stevensville, Michigan, passed away on January 27, 2016. She was born in 1925 in Lansing, Michigan. Kay lived in Lansing for most of her life. She graduated high school from Lansing Central. She worked at Louis Laundry and Dry Cleaners in East Lansing, owned by her parents, ran the office at Clawson Floors in downtown Lansing for many years, and occasionally worked in various other capacities over the years. She enjoyed helping people and giving back, she spent many hours happily volunteering: as a Candy Striper at Sparrow Hospital, doing office tasks for the Red Cross and for Hospice, and assisting in different capacities at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Lansing. She also loved flowers, gardening and watching the hummingbirds. She took particular pride in the accomplishments of her children and her grandchildren. After retirement from Clawson Floors in the early 90's, she spent summers at Pretty Lake with Donald. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Louis & Vivian Roins of Clearwater Beach, Florida, her husband, Donald, and her sister, Georgia Bunt of Old Mission, Michigan. She is survived by her sister, Athena and her husband, Douglas Gilman of St. Petersburg, Florida, children Gary (Diane VanDeHei) of Bethesda, Maryland, Elaine (F. Joseph) Abood of Grand Ledge, Michigan, Clark and Debra, both of Stevensville, Michigan, as well as her 7 grandchildren: Katherine Clawson of Pacifica, California, Lan VanDeHei of Philadelphia, Irina VanDeHei of Bethesda, Nicole (Jeremy) Malson of Fowlerville, Christopher Abood of Lansing, Kathleen Abood of Ferndale, Michigan, and Timothy Abood of Grand Ledge, Michigan. Kay was a resident of Woodland Terrace in Bridgman, and we extend our thanks to those who were so very helpful and enabled her stay there. We also extend our thanks to Comfort Keepers in Lansing and St. Joseph (particularly to Debbie, Mary and Madonna), to Hospice (with an extra thank you to Karin and nurses Ann and Becky), and to the staff at Pine Ridge Nursing Home in Stevensville. Donations may be made in her honor to Hospice at Home, Inc. 4025 Health Park Lane, St. Joseph, Michigan 49085. In keeping with Katherine's wishes, her family will remember her privately.
