Herbert "Herb" Disterheft, 89, of Dowagiac, passed away at his home on Thursday, February 18, 2016. Herb was born on September 13, 1926 to the late Gottlieb and Marie (Fiege) Disterheft. After his schooling Herb left to help his family on the farm until he was drafted. Herb left for the United States Army on his 18th birthday. Shortly after returning Herb met, and fell in love with, Thelma Britton. The two were married in 1958. Herb was a lifelong farmer and also retired from Clark Equipment. He was preceded in death by his parents and his ten siblings. Herb is survived by his wife, Thelma; sons, Gary (Debbie) Disterheft of Glendale Heights, Illinois, Larry (Diane) Disterheft of Lansing, Illinois, Dennis (Monica) Disterheft of Hudsonville, Michigan; daughters, Judy (Jeff) Nickerson of South Bend, Indiana and Patty (Jeff) Hippensteel of Dowagiac, Michigan; seventeen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services to honor Herbert's life will be held at Mission Hills Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at Noon with a time of visitation one hour prior.
