Obituary of George C. Baker

George C. Baker (lovingly known as Cam), 62, of Niles, passed away suddenly of natural causes on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Lakeland Regional Hospital in St. Joseph. He was born on June 6, 1955 in Niles, MI to the late George A. and Myrna I. (Lawrence) Baker. George graduated from Andrews Academy in 1973 and attended Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama. George rekindled an old friendship with Marilyn A. Murphy and on April 9, 2005 the two of them were married in a ceremony in Niles. George was a gifted craftsman and worked in carpentry and construction most of his life, most recently employed by West Construction. He was a hard worker and could do almost anything with his hands. He liked the outdoors, often enjoyed a game of Scrabble or horseshoes, and was an avid sports fan. George loved his family and always enjoyed time spent with them and his many friends. He was a member of the Niles Philadelphia Seventh-Day Adventist Church. George was preceded in death by his parents, George A. and Myrna I. Baker-McClain; and a brother, Edward L. Baker. George leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Marilyn Baker of Niles; her children, Sherri (Antowan) Jordan of Niles, Quen Potts of Niles and Nashaira Verrier of Boston, Massachusetts; seven step-grandchildren; his siblings, Myrna (Delbert) Hunt of Niles, Karen (David) Alford-Peay of South Bend and Gregory (Diane) Baker of Rogers, Arkansas; a father-in-law, John Murphy of Niles; mother-in-law, Magnolia Murphy of Niles; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and countless other lives that he touched. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Noon at Niles Westside Seventh-day Adventist Church at 1105 Grant Street in Niles with visitation beginning at 11:00 am. An interment will be held at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens.
