Obituary of Francis Frederick Smith

Francis Frederick Smith, 77, of Dowagiac, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph. He was born on March 24, 1939 to the late Francis M. and Helen M. (Kling) Smith, in Cassopolis, Michigan. Francis was a life-long resident of the area and was a proud member of his community. He was a member of Calvary Bible Church for thirty-eight years and served on the Cass County Sheriff's Reserve unit for over ten years. He retired from Tyler Refrigeration in 2001 after forty-four years of dedicated service. On December 3, 1977 he married Rosemary R. Remus at a ceremony in St. Johns, Michigan. Francis is preceded in death by his parents; Francis M. and Helen M. Smith and brother James P. Smith. He leaves behind his memory to his loving wife, Rosemary R. Smith; son, Charles E. (Nancy) Smith, of Decatur; daughter, Candace (Philip) Caviness, of Dowagiac; grandchildren, Melissa Jo Smith, Johnathon E. Smith, Stephanie R. Smith, Matthew Frederick Caviness, Payton G. Caviness and Aaron P. Caviness, sister; Judith Montgomery, of Edwardsburg and a host of family and friends. Memorial contributions may be made in Francis' memory to Calvary Bible Church; 27032 Marcellus Hwy., Dowagiac, MI 49047. A time of visitation will be held on Monday, April 25, 2016 from 4-8pm at Mission Hills Memorial Chapel; 61453 M-51, Niles, Michigan 49120. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at 11 O'clock in the Morning at Calvary Bible Church; 27032 Marcellus Hwy., Dowagiac, MI, 49047. A private burial will be held following funeral services.
