Obituary of Bailey Steven-Lee Bennett

Please share a memory of Bailey to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bailey Steven-Lee Bennett, 10 years old, of Niles, passed away peacefully at home in the arms of his family on Tuesday, June 7, 2016. Bailey was born in Niles on June 5, 2006 to his proud parents, Andy and Stefanie (Carrico) Bennett and joined his sister Shelby. Bailey attended Howard Ellis Elementary as a happy and energetic young boy. He loved to dance and make everyone around him smile. In 2012 Bailey was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, a cancerous brain tumor. After surgery and bravely undergoing over 30 radiation treatments it appeared as though Bailey was cancer free. As a typical carefree first grader Bailey was always having fun. He danced anywhere, loved riding his four-wheeler, enjoyed teasing his sister, and most of all he loved being outside with his family. In November of 2014 Bailey's cancer came back. Even during all of his treatments he was always reassuring his family, smiling, dancing with the nurses and what turned in to "push-ups for Bailey". Every Friday when his port was de-accessed he reassured everyone around him he was strong and danced and did push-ups. Soon after he started this the nurses, doctors, staff, parents, strangers, and nearly every local school started doing push-ups for Bailey. This encouragement was huge for him and his family. Bailey was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Cheryl Bennett. He is survived by two amazing parents, Andy and Stefanie; sister, Shelby; paternal grandfather Paul Bennett of Niles; maternal grandparents, Carl and Susan Carrico of Niles; aunts and uncles, Megan (Steven Hoskin) Bennett of Niles, Carl Carrico, II of Edwardsburg, Jeff (Gina) Carrico of Edwardsburg, Jill (Paul) Swartz of Granger, Indiana and Justin (Echo) Carrico of Niles; and several cousins. An upbeat celebration of Bailey's life will be held on Monday, June 13, 2016 at Hope Community Church, located at 2390 Lake Street in Niles from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Family, friends and classmates are encouraged to gather during this time to share a memory of how Bailey has touched their life and sport their best super hero gear, baseball jersey or brightly colored or blue clothing. At 2:00 p.m. everyone in attendance is encouraged to follow the family to Mission Hills Memorial Gardens where a graveside service will be held to honor and celebrate Bailey. A dance party will be held in Bailey's memory on June 18, 2016 at the Morris Farms Fire Department beginning at 4:00 p.m. Please join the family for a night of dancing and festivities. Those wishing to make a donation to the family may do so at www.YouCaring.com/BaileyBennett and are encouraged to bring a small toy for donation to the church. Toys may also be dropped off at Shelton's Farm Market, Olfactory Hue Bistro, and Luminous Hair Spa.
