Obituary of Versie Mae Washington

Versie Mae Washington, 91, was born Versie Mae Gregory on July 4, 1924 in Steele, Missouri to the union of Ellis and Beadie (Haynes) Gregory. Versie entered into eternal rest peacefully, Wednesday, June 15, 2016 with her family by her side, at Westwood of Niles Nursing Home. Versie moved from Missouri to Niles, Michigan in the early 50's with her family. Soon after, Versie met and united with Sylvester Palmer. To that union were born seven children: Sylvester, Jerry, Larry, Danny, Carl, Priscilla and Vernon. Versie later married Cleo Washington on September 24, 1971 and enjoyed 34 years of Marriage until Cleo passed away January 28, 2005. Versie confessed Christ at an early age and committed her life to Christ under the leadership of Pastor Walter Brown at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Versie worked for Michigan Fruit Cannery for 10 years. She was a homemaker, she loved cooking, serving on the Mother boards and family gatherings. Versie leaves to cherish her memories six children: Sylvester (Garnetta) Palmer of San Jacinto, California; Jerry Palmer of Portsmouth, Virginia; Larry (Linda) Palmer of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Danny (Rose) Palmer, and Priscilla Palmer both of South Bend, Indiana and Vernon (Nanetta) Palmer of Benton Harbor, Michigan; Seventeen (17) grandchildren, twenty three (23) great-grandchildren and a host of nephews and nieces. Waiting to meet her in glory is her husband Cleo, parents Ellis and Beadie Gregory, sister Robbie Lee Wells, brother Ellis Gregory Jr, son Carl Palmer and daughter Glodean Oard. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Noon at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with a time of visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. The family will gather for committal services on Monday, June 27, 2016 at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma, Michigan.
