Obituary of Mavis L. Wages

Mavis L. Wages, 95, of Niles passed away Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Lakeland Health. She was born on April 11, 1921 in Marshall, Michigan to the late Ray and Florence (Goodrich) Vernier. Mavis graduated from Niles High School in 1939 and has been a life-long resident of the area. She worked for many years as a secretary for Simplicity Pattern, where she later retired. Mavis enjoyed spending time traveling, was a gifted seamstress and loved playing cards with her family and friends. On June 22, 1940, she married Russell W. Wages at a ceremony in St. Joseph, Michigan; the two of them raised three children. She is preceded in death by her parent; Ray and Florence Vernier, husband; Russell Wages, daughter; Jerilyn Taylor, son-in-law; Ray Taylor, grandson; Ray Taylor Jr., and brothers; Rex and Duane Vernier. Mavis is survived by her two daughters; Deb (Rodger) Hoese, of Niles and Cindy (Jim ) Welch of, The Villages, Florida, 6 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, a special friend; Bobbi Hoese and a host of family and friends. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home.
