Obituary of James William-Thomas Statler

James William Thomas Statler, 67, of Niles, passed away at Lakeland Community Hospital in Niles, on June 28, 2016, following a courageous battle with cancer, Agent Orange.
He was born on January 5, 1949 in Campbell, Missouri to the late James and Lucille (Goff) Statler.
After high school, James enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country proudly during the Vietnam War. He worked as a machinist for many years. James was an avid trap-shooter and enjoyed collecting guns and fishing. He liked to watch "How it's Made" on television. James will also be remembered for his great sense of humor. James took many trips up north and never tired of going to Mackinac Island. He was a lifelong student of history and above all else, family was most important, especially his grandchildren. His family will always remember him as their "Superman".
James is survived by two daughters, Jamie Statler of Niles and Erika Statler of Indiana, three grandchildren; Alencio McClendon, Isabella Statler and Gabriella Statler, five sisters; Janie (Jim) Buckner of Mt. Clemens, Michigan, Susie (Helmuit) Muritez of Illinois, Nickie (Lee) Knitter of St. Joseph, Patty Statler of Aurora, Colorado and Carol Statler of Elkhart, Indiana.
A celebration of James' life will be held at Brown Funeral Home in Niles on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with a time of visitation beginning one hour prior.
Memorial contributions may be made in James' memory to Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250. James' life was greatly impacted due to the effects of Agent Orange, he obtained while serving his country.
