Obituary of Edward Hoover

Edward Lee Hoover, 77, of Buchanan, passed away at Lakeland Hospital on Monday, July 25, 2016. Ed was born on January 14, 1939 to the late Charlie and Mary (Bishop) Hoover in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. On October 26, 1957 Ed wed the love of his life, Jennie Slocum, at a ceremony in Batesville, Arkansas. Together they had three children, Betty, Lynda and Ed Jr. In 1989 Ed retired from Tyler's Refrigeration after 30 faithful years. He and Jennie enjoyed retirement to its fullest. Ed loved to hunt, fish and garden. He fished up until recently when his health prevented him from doing so. He loved his flower garden and always making sure it was meticulously cared for, even instructing Jennie which weeds to pull when he wasn't able to go outside. He took great care of his Trail Blazer which he affectionately referred to as "The Baby" and it only took a back seat to his wonderful family. When he wasn't outdoors he could be found inside watching NASCAR and cheering on Jeff Gordon. He enjoyed traveling to Texas to visit his sister, Goldie, and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys all season long. Ed's family was the most important thing in his life; he savored his time with his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his sister. Ed was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, Jennie; children, Betty (Randy) Burgess of Niles, Lynda (Thomas) Clark of Berrien Center and Edward (DeShawn) Hoover Jr. of Nappanee; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sister, Goldie Landrum of Mineral, Texas; and several nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Funeral services to honor Ed's life will be held at Mission Hills Committal Chapel on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. with a time of visitation one hour prior. Those wishing to make a memorial donation in Ed's name may do so to the American Cancer Society or DeVos Children's Hospital, Grand Rapids.
