Elmer we will miss you more than you know. It has been around three years since Barbara and I visited with Elmer and Yvonne at their home in Niles. What a competitor and he was, and you tried to measure up to the standard that he had set. I feel sadness for the family but he is in a better place now and looking down on us and is saying if you could see me now.

There are those that within 5 minutes of meeting them, you know the caliber of human being that is in front of you. Elmer was certainly a good and godly man. Always able to share a good story, he never new how he would make my day with stories of his past. From his war-time to railroad and beyond, I take the liberty of sharing with my children and grandchildren those stories. I always begin the same way.........."I know a man who........" . Over the more than 30 years that I knew him, he was never loud, crass or rude. Always the gentleman.
See you when I get there, Elmer-san. Pat Colburn

My memories with Elmer Domke go back a few years. We share the same hobby with Racing Pigeons. I first met and raced against Elmer when I was a junior flyer and entered the Michigan State Club 400 mile Old Bird race when I was a 17 year old high school graduate. We competed in the Dowagiac Homing Pigeon Club for many years. Elmer was the guy to try to beat on race day. His love for his pigeons showed as his birds rewarded him with boxes of trophies over the years for so many race wins. He may have won more State Races over the years that anyone else. Yvonne would ride with him on many occasions over the years. In more recent years I would drive to State young bird Auctions and Elmer would come to my house to ride with. We shared many interested pigeons stories over the years about very special birds that did amazing things.
Elmer was a great competitor of mine but more importantly I called Elmer my friend. My life is richer for knowing him and many stories will be shared in the future with Elmer in them. Elmer is now taking care of the Lord's doves. I am sure he has the legs of a young man again. My sympathy goes out to Yvonne, Laura and Marty. I am so sorry for your loss. Elmer will be missed by me and so many other friends of him.
Rest in Peace my good friend, John E Nelson St Joseph, MI

My deepest condolences to Elmer's family. I couldn't begin to share the memories, as they started long ago and have lasted until last week. Rest in Peace, Elmer...you will be missed.
