Obituary of Helen Irene Lewis

Helen Irene (Cooper) Lewis, 97, of Niles, Passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Lakeland Community Hospital in Niles. She was born On August 27, 1915 to the late Ira and Nellie (Smith) Cooper in Plymouth, Indiana. In June of 1933 Helen married Robert Lewis at a ceremony in Mishawaka, Indiana. Helen retired after many years of service as a folder at Simplicity Pattern Company. She was a faithful member of Bertrand Bible Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She enjoyed Sewing, gardening, bird-watching, watching kickboxing and cage-fighting, and playing with Corky, the family Yorkie. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert Lewis, a son Gerald Lewis, a son-in-law Larry Wirick and three brothers; Roy, Robert and Ronald Cooper and a sister Miriam Wigent. Helen is survived by a son Larry L. (Beverly) Lewis of Niles, and a daughter Helen C. Wirick of Prospect, Tennessee, ten grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was also survived by a sister Elnora (Charles) Snyder of Liberty, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 24, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Mission Hills Memorial Chapel in Niles with Pastor Tony Slagle officiating. A time of visitation will be held beginning at noon on Monday at the Mission Hills Memorial Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made in Helen's memory to the Bertrand Bible Church.
