Obituary of Robert McGregor

Robert "Bob" McGregor, 87, of Niles, passed away unexpectedly, of natural causes, on Monday, January 9, 2017 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, with his family by his side. Bob was born on May 8, 1929 to the late William W. and Ivy G. (Ricketts) McGregor. Shortly after graduating high school, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served his country proudly during the Korean War, earning a Silver Star. Bob was most recently retired as the owner of Oil Express Trucking. On April 10, 1982 Bob married Linda Sisk at a ceremony in Niles. He spent many years enjoying fishing, hunting, and bowling in a variety of leagues. He had a passion for sports; watching the University of Michigan, Detroit Tigers, Lions, RedWings, and Pistons play every chance he got. Bob will be remembered for being a hard worker and always providing for those he loved. Bob loved his family and lived long enough to see his youngest son graduate college, get married, and welcome, Philip, his latest grandson into the world. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, William McGregor and a sister, Mary McGregor. Bob leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Linda McGregor of Niles, Michigan, six children; Mark McGregor, Cathy O'Brien, and Karen Bezemek all of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Nancy (Butch) Hall of Granger, Indiana, Dale McGregor of Malta, Ohio, and Jonathan (Julie) McGregor of Dearborn, Michigan, fourteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren (with another on the way), two brothers; Lawrence (Barbara) McGregor of Riverview, Michigan, and Edward (Linda) McGregor of Rockwood, Michigan, as well as Mark, Cathy, Nancy, and Karen's mother, Phyllis McGregor. Memorial contributions may be made in Bob's memory to the Pet Refuge of your choice. Friends and family will gather to remember Bob on Saturday, January 14, 2017 from 4:00p.m. until 7:00p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Niles. The time of visitation will conclude with military rights at 7:00p.m. at the funeral home.
