Obituary of Edward Slaughter

Edward Allen Slaughter, 59, of Niles, passed away at Lakeland Hospital in Niles on Thursday, January 26, 2017. Ed, or Al as he was known by his family and close friends, was born on July 4, 1957 in South Bend IN, but grew up in Niles MI. Ed was the most happy being around family friends. Whether it was camping, fishing, or holidays, Ed was the one who could talk to everyone and anyone and make them laugh. He was often referred to as Ed the one with the one liners. Being a truck driver since his earlier 20's, Ed was fortunate to be able to see most of the United States and its beauty from the road. Ed was always familiar with a specific landmark or truck stop in any state and he did not mind spending time talking about the places he traveled. He could keep people entertained for hours. Ed is survived by his children, Heather (Sean) Haas of South Bend, Thomas (Mandy) Slaughter of Niles; two grandchildren; siblings, John (Karen) Slaughter of Edwardsburg, Judy (Gene) Erickson of Addison, Michigan, Cynthia (David) Jerdon of Niles, and Teresa (David) Adams of Big Rapids, Michigan, and many extended family members and close friends. Ed also leaves behind his fiancé Amy Thornhill of Niles, and his very best friend Danny. Ed's family will be holding a memorial gathering on February 26, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Greater Niles Senior Center located at 1109 Bell Road in Niles.
