Obituary of Verdonna Proud

Verdonna M. Proud, 84, of Niles, passed away at her residence on Tuesday, February 7, 2017. She was born on January 16, 1933 in Paducah, Kentucky to the late Fred A. and Mary (Cook) Stewart. On February 17, 1951 Verdonna married Gerald L. Proud at a ceremony in Kentucky. The couple moved to Michigan on February 19, 1953 and Verdonna worked for many years at Niles Simplicity Pattern Company. She enjoyed flower gardening, spending time outdoors, playing with her grandchildren, watching the CUBS, and spending time with family and friends. She had a big heart, especially for animals. Verdonna never had a problem speaking her mind and could be bold; you always knew where you stood with her. She was a woman of great faith and will be greatly missed by those whose lives she touched. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gerald Proud, a son, Gary W. Proud, two brothers, Bob and James Stewart and two sisters, Frances Proud and Susie Lynn. Verdonna is survived by two daughters, Rhonda Boyd of Niles, Linda Sheldone (Terry Bixler) of Ellenton, Florida, six grandchildren; Leslie, Vicki, Joe and Tony Sheldone, Mikael (Kelly) Norris and Shaun (Carlie) Norris, 6 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, as well as two brothers, Larry Stewart of Niles and Jerry Stewart of Gilbertsville, Kentucky. Verdonna's family will remember her privately and memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Salvation Army.
