Obituary of Donald R. Ramer

Donald R. Ramer, 87, of Niles, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Chalet of Niles, following an illness. He was born on April 28, 1929 in Niles to the late Richard and Irene (Myer) Ramer. After graduating high school he married Charlotte F. Johnson at a ceremony in Buchanan on September 5, 1948. Don worked for many years as a delivery driver, both as a milkman and over twenty years at Hostess Bakery. Don was a member of the Fairland Christian Church in Niles. He collected H.O. Model Trains for many years. He loved traveling across the country in his R.V. He also enjoyed cooking and time spent with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Charlotte Ramer, and a granddaughter, Shelley Mathis. Don is survived by his daughters, Dale Mathis of Coloma and Ruth Ann (Mike) Helbig of Niles; son, John (Chris) Ramer of Benton Harbor; grandchildren; Andrea Mathis, Jason (Jenny) Mathis, Casey (Rodney) Hilligoss and Chris (Shaya) Helbig; three great grandchildren and a sister Norma Coquillard of Niles. Funeral services to honor Don will be held on Monday, March 6, 2017 at Mission Hills Memorial Chapel at 11:00 a.m. with a time of visitation one hour prior. Memorial contributions may be made in Donald's memory to Fairland Christian Church, 1811 River Bluff St., Niles, Michigan 49120.
